One of them proper update things I guess...

Just finished a trilogy of books that I picked up at Concise last year. Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion. I loved all three books. Thought that the ending was rushed but I loved the main character and her total surrender near the end of the last book. It's so rare to find a book in the fantasy genre that puts a whole new perspective on things. Military, Science, Good and Evil were all balanced almost perfectly and the gods they serve were once mortals. It's a rather unique idea on the whole thing and it was well done. I went off to order the prequal of these books on Amazon yesterday and found a trade paperback edition of both books in one. And its costing less than one of the books would cost over here. So all in all, not a bad buy for a euro.

Watched The Others last night on BBC1. Hadn't seen it before so thought I'd give it a whirl. I decided that seeing as it was around 8 and dark that I'd watch it from under the covers with only a small desk lamp that I leave on at night for light. Mistake number 1. Within half an hour, I was freaked out. It didn't help that I was all alone in the house and that the house was making settling noises in the attic. You know that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you are thoroughly freaked out? I had that ... in spades. Not an overtly scary music, but the tone and the music were fantastic.
