Seems to be a rather apt title for this post if you think about it. I just realised that I haven't updated for over a month and well, that's a bit remiss of me.

Last I updated, I was working out in Blanchardstown (after being let go from MicroSoft with an hours notice) for a very nice company, albeit in a very cold room. We were practically in the server room and that amount of fans, well it was cold. That was a great job with a great bunch of people. Complete design and maintanence of SQL servers including batch file uploads. Completely up my street and a free reign to do anything I wanted with it and talk to anyone about how to improve it, and well they had a database analyst who specialised in terrabyte processes and security engineers who had over 40 years experience and contracts with NASA and the NSA. It was fantastic. Oracle sent people over to talk to me and to try to sell me their product which included up to date training on their new stuff (10g and 11i). I really enjoyed that job. Of course, seeing as it was an ideal job, funding was cut. Out of a budget of 250 Billion Dollars, they had blown most of it on advertising in the states and didn't have enough left for most of their techies to be kept on. Ah well.

So the jobhunt started again. A couple of weeks and no interviews and only a few prospects with words of "Well it's a bad time of year, you know!" Then got an interview with one of the government departments and it went well. Of course, the way my luck was running, that meant that I certainly didn't get it. A fact they informed me of last Monday and again on Tuesday. Of course, a phonecall arrived on Wednesday saying that I was to start on Monday. That always sort of annoys me because I get slightly down when I don't get a job that I 1) think I could be good at or 2) did a good interview for and seem to meet all the requirements.

Anyway Monday came and all was good, apart from the bus breaking down three times on the way in. Don't ya just love DublinBus! Anyway, found the place (DCMNR or Department of Communications, the Marine and Natural Resources to the less abbreviation savvy of you out there) and go in with plenty of time to spare and reported in. Everyone here is really nice and laid back. The only hangup is that it's taking a while to get my computer logon and until then there is really nothing that I can do. But on the plus side, I have a page of plot (A4 sized in tiny writing) for tonight's game written and all eventualities are covered even for subsequent games and the CMS how-to files and idiot's guides memorised and notarized. If it was difficult I wouldn't mind, but it really is rather simple and straight forward.

And in other fantastic news... I now have broadband at home. It's from Clearwire and it was connecting at 2.22Mbps last night on a 1Mbps connection. Naturally thats going to drop but it's really good. And fast. Seriously recommend it! And on top of that, the guys who sell it will actually come out, give you a demonstration of it and help you set it up. Really nice guys. Of course, the best bit is that the first month is a grand total of €1. (After that, it's 39.99 but hey, a Euro isn't bad for a month, and they will take it away after that if you're not happy with it.)

Playtests for the Cyberpunk game for Confess went well. I am happy with it and everyone else seemed to like it as well. A few minor changes and Dave can have it. Playing with Cyberpsychosis is fun! ;) The Gaelcon WoD game is underway, with the first part written and nearly finished... Of course this does leave the rest of it to write but it's no longer looking at a blank page.

Oh and the Cyberpunk fiction that I was writing (and will go back to) drew some interest. I actually got some fanmail along with queries of when it was going to be finished cause he really wanted to read the rest of the redemption story. Colour me chuffed!

Right, that seems to be all I can think of at the moment, so I shall go away back to the land of lurking and start reading people's journals again. :)

Yay for job and broadband!

*snuggles*

I won't be able to make it out tonight - too tired, too sick. :( Sorry.
