Jul. 17th, 2006 11:46 amIt's not often I get to the end of a book and wonder what's the point. Even as I was reading it and looking at the decreasing amount of pages left, I was wondering where the illusion of plot had gone. At the start there is a bit of set up - The vampire!ballet is coming to town and bringing some Masters of the City with it. Cue arming up and blowing seven shades of shit out of the world... But no. Instead we get Ronnie bitching (again!) and blurting out that Anita missed a period! Fair enough. So now there is a pregnancy scare. Cue Anita getting lots of cuddles from the hot guys she sleeps with.
Evening progresses and there are more Masters and they do nasty things and don't get killed... Hmmm... More pregancy things. More requests for Anita to widen her harem. More pointlessness... Less sex! Hmmm... Not going to good yet. Then finally there is sex. And Anita now finding out that she kinda likes the guys getting off with each other. Oh wow, like that was a surprise. Not!
Then there are more pregnancy issues and more sex and more angst. Richard really needs to be put down! My god what a whiney git! For the love of everything sexual in the books, you're the leader of the St. Louis werewolves. Act like it. Don't be a whiney pussy-boy! Cry a river, build a bridge and get over it! Fucking hell, it's getting really annoying now.
And the whole is she, isn't she with the changing into leopard/wolf/lion/something else... Resolve it or leave it alone. Dragging it out over many many books is just annoying.
Right, less of this neighsaying. What did I like about the book...? It's a short list.
1. It seems to be a setup book for the upcoming fight between Anita/Jean-Claude (stealing away human servant) and Marme Noir.
2. Nathaniel finally has a backbone and likes using it. He plays Auggie perfectly and twacks Richard upside the head verbally a couple of times - Good for him!
3. Asher (even though he's a whiney git) at the end when he finally realises that Anita does love him but now they are destined not to be alone together when they shag. Angst! Angst!
I really like Nathaniel as a character. He's one of the ones she's spent time on and it kinda shows. Compare and contrast with Micah - who is every bit as involved in Anita's life as Nathaniel and you see that she's really neglected the Nimir Raj. *sigh* Annoying cause he has such wonderful potential.
But the whole Anita is so fucked up that the whole going to the doctor thing just isn't going to work anymore - *sigh* Bloody hell. Stop dumping shit on her and go back to the sex! Please?!
