Raymond E Feist deserves a read.

Terry Goodkind is really kinda missable - Read "The Wizard's First Rule" and stop.

Tom Clancy, I'm not terribly keen on but it's an acceptable beachside read.

This is a very long reply

CS Lewis: Narnia chronicle - not bad, children's books but read into them for all the religious "hidden" inside.
Agatha Cristie: enjoyable crime, I prefer Poirot to Miss Marple though (please ignore bad spelling)
Anne McCaffrey: Really enjoyed the Tower & the Hive series, Pern books are good too.
Anne Rice: I don't like her vampires
Bernard Cornwell: Very enjoyable
Patricia Cornwell: Good but there are better
Robert Jordan: If he doesn't finish the series soon i think he's gonna get lynched, read only to about book 6.
Ursula Le Guin: I enjoyed these in school.

Have opinions on other authors but not sure which one's you've already read so just leaving this list for now

ok, loooong reply!

*clears throat*

Andre Norton - The Halfblood chronicles (with Mercedes Lackey) are very enjoyable (the Elvenbane, Elvenblood, Elvenborn, Elvenbred). Haven't read anything else by her, though.

Anne McCaffrey *fangirlish squee* - Dragonriders of Pern is what got me in to fantasy, must reads IMO. I love and recommend the Crystal Singer trilogy (Crystal Singer, Killashandra, Crystal Line) as well, it's not as well known as some of her other series...but I've reread it about 3 times now...there's just something about it I love. Also good are: the Brainship books (Ship Who Sang is the most famous, but my least fave...read it to learn about the world, then read the others, even the ones AMC didn't write in at all), the Freedom series (though I know you already have those in hard copy, so I don't need to recommend ^^). And finally the Talents books I have only read the Pegasus half of the Talents series', but I will get around to The Tower and the Hive someday, since I loved the Pegasus books. (If you have the T&H quintet, I am so stealing them!)
Note: I've read and loved a LOT of AMC, but I would not recommend Dinosaur Planet, one of the most boring books I've ever read >.o Couldn't even finish it. There is a point at which you need to draw a line with tech-talk in Sci-fi books...this seems to have no line.

Arthur C Clarke - Read 2001: A Space Odyssey if you haven't already, but only cause it's a classic. Personally, I thought it was very very average.

Arthur Conan Doyle - *_* Oh, this brings back memories! Read it! Read it all! Which reminds me, I should reread all the Sherlock Holmes books I have again, now that I'm older. I'm told the slash subtext is everywhere. ^^;

David Eddings - An author I love, but another that has fallen victim to the "libraries of EVIL". I have read the Belgariad series twice, but been thwarted countless times in obtaining book 2 of the Mallorean series from the library. It's gotten to the stage that Belgariad will need a third reread to catch up the memory. The companion books Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress are both good compliments to the series. I also recommend the unrelated one-shot The Redemption of Althalus. And someday I may get to wrestle The Elenium and The Tamuli series out of the library as well. Unless of course, you have them ^_______^
In my experience, I find that Eddings' works are light, easyish reads, but nevertheless entertaining.

Frank Herbert - Dune = Love. Read it. Okay, maybe it's just my nerdish glee at finally getting around to reading the books that dear Dune II was derived from...but I really quite like what I've read of this so far. The first book is the best, but the sequels are good, too, what I've read of them. Of course, they had to go change the covers right after I'd collected half of them, didn't they? Grr.

Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game is brilliant. Read it. Speaker For the Dead scared the crap out of me, but was also brilliant. I really want to read more of this someday, but again with the library issues. -_-
Card is no Eddings, I find his work to be quite harsh and gritty...almost a bit reminiscent of Dark Tower's writing.

Raymond E. Feist - Loved Magician, highly recommend reading at least it and the two books following it (Silverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon) I have about 5 books in this series, I think....but a long break from reading made me miss continuing the series despite owning the next few books. Another one that will require a reread to get through, but I look forward to it. I really enjoyed this series!

Robert Ludlum - Read the Bourne Identity, it is a masterpiece. I read it after seeing the movie, and thought the book left the movie utterly for dead. I haven't read any of the others, but I've heard the more you read, the more you realise they're all the same book. The first is the best. I think the second one, The Bourne Supremacy is good (can't remember if I've read it, how awful of me!), but I'd be wary of reading any more, even ones not in the Bourne series.

Ursula K LeGuin - I've read the Earthsea Quartet and enjoyed it, though it was quite...odd, at times. Especially the further into the series it got. I will be reading it all again before or just after the next Miyazaki release, I imagine. ^_^

Thank you, thank you, thank you, only just now discovered that there were 2 more Elven... Books!!! read the first one , loved it and made the discovery in a second book shop of the second one.... that was one of those happy days!!! and now ...there ..... are ..... TWO.... more >:-)))

Also, if you come across them at all, read the Elenium. They are quite possibly my favourite Fantasy trilogy EVER.

No probs! I came across the first 3 Halfblood books in the library. All together. All on the shelf. At the same branch. It was quite amazing, considering the other trouble I'd had getting series from the library! I read them at first because I was on a Mercedes Lackey kick, and I thought Andre Norton was male until only last year when I discovered the 4th book online and went to grab it from the library!

unfortunately, you have now created a problem for me, in that while i am skint, the other tab i currently have open is amazon............ Must .....exercise....self...control.....

seriously tho, get the Elenium. The lead Characters are sooo great, and work soo well together. there's action. there's romance(for those into that sort of thing :-P). there's magic. and by the gods there's humour!

Hehe, the Amazon call is hard to resist!

Yes, I always wanted to read it, so I will definitely try to! I'll make sure to leech it off Bon (along with muuuuuch more *drools at author list*) next time I'm in Ireland...*crosses fingers for getting time off work in August*
