So... my week ended a little badly. Who the hell puts coconut into chocolate chip cookies? Well, that's neither here nor there, but as I was settling down for a wee snack as I surfed the web, I bit into my chocolate chip cookie that I'd been saving for weeks only to find that wonderful taste. Cue me spitting it out and going to wash out my mouth before heaven forbid that I do something evil like swallow some of that non-chocolately goodness. For those who don't know - I have a coconut allergy.
About 12 years ago, I was having a bar of chocolate on the beach when my throat decided to close up. Cue allergy tests and what had been a small allergy had grown into a rather nasty allergy. So things happened and I was all right again. However, I've steered fairly clear of coconut since. There was one small incident during my finals (sweet and sour sauce - can you believe?) and nothing since. However, I don't know the intensity of the reaction any more because it can change. The anaphalaxis could have been a once off. But I'm not taking any chances.
Started to feel dizzy so decided better safe than sorry so I took my shot and everything was grand. Apart from nausea the next morning and feelings of discontent and mild paranoia the next day. Of course, the last thing I wanted was to see a spider on my finger, just sitting there. Add in arachnaphobia and well .... Cue me doing the best I could to stay in control while wanting to claw my skin off. Sure I was jumping and paranoid whenever a hair moved or a breeze caught a strand of hair and made it brush my face... But I think I'm okay now. However, not something I really want to do again. Spent about 20 minutes this morning in the local shop looking through ingredients for chocolate chip cookies to figure out which ones I had to stay away with. Good news is that there are only two brands that I have to stay away from.
*sigh* Coconut shouldn't be a wheat substitute!!!
