So... Yesterday I went to get a particularly annoying lump looked at and poked. Doctor said I had a cyst on the crown of my head. Turns out he wasn't quite right but the difference is neither here nor there cause it's coming out anyway! And believe me, I'm completely happy about this. The consultant who will be doing the surgery was extremely nice and explained stuff to me (and my mum who went with me cause I was a wee bit worried)... So in less than two weeks, the thing I've been worried about is going to be gone! ^_^

Unfortunate thing is that I have to check in at godawful in the morning (7.30 for lay people). Means another day off work. *sigh* Not going to have many left. Worst thing about the whole thing has to be that I won't be able to wash my hair for at least a week ... *shiver* I hate that! But necessary evil!

Now just gotta go tell my boss when he ever gets back in. He's away for aaaaaaaaaages.

Anyway, work is going well. Managed to get a lot of stuff done today. Going to try to get a lot of it done today and tomorrow and then get the manual written between Thursday and Friday. That sounds workable, right? *crosses fingers* Of course, the more my deadline looms, the more I want to do things like surf the net or read any of the three stories I have open at this moment in time.

*grin* [livejournal.com profile] sora_ishida has finally seen all of Firefly! Next step... Sitting her down in front of Serenity.

Um... do you not get sick days in work? Think you're pretty much legally entitled to them - especially when it's actual, like, surgery!

Not sure, but my recruitment company isn't the best in the world when it comes to giving the workers their rights. I know I have 4 emergency days, 20 vacation days... and I think that's all that's specifically stated. Will check up on that though. *wanders off to get dad to poke contract - seeing as it's stored in a safe place - Cavan*

From Oasis:

Sick leave and annual leave

If you are ill during your annual leave and have a medical certificate for the days you were ill, these sick days will not be counted as annual leave days. Instead, you can use these days as annual leave at a later date.

An employer cannot require you to take annual leave for a period of illness. However, illness during the leave year will reduce the total number of hours worked by an employee and can therefore affect your entitlement to annual leave. An employee for example who works 40 hours per week will accumulate the necessary 1,365 hours in the leave year after just over 34 weeks working to qualify for the minimum amount of annual leave (i.e., 4 weeks). Absence from work through sickness would need to be extensive (i.e., 18 weeks or more) before it affected that employee's annual leave.
Can I be forced to take annual leave if I have a hospital appointment?

If you are in employment and have to take time out of your day to attend a hospital appointment, you may take this time off work. However, you are not automatically entitled to pay for this time off while attending hospital appointments. Some employers however will pay their employees while they attend hospital appointments but they are not required by law to do so. Check with your employer to find out the situation in your workplace.

Remember, your employer cannot force you to take annual leave to attend such hospital appointments.

Checked with my contract - the 4 emergency days are for things like bereavements, feeling sick, etc. The only thing it says about sick leave is that a med cert is required if over three days. Meh, I figure if I get the doc to sign something saying that I was in hospital it will suffice. *hates @ contract*

DB will only pay for periods of sickness longer than 3 days (waiting days) so you can't claim that unless doctor gives you sick note for the period (and MC1)
