A while ago, I decided to investigate the message feature of Livejournal and now it lets me know when people decide to friend me, update their userpics, comment and record comments that I left on other people's entries.  Well today, I got an email which told me that someone had friended me.  I'd never heard of them so I decided to wander over and have a gander at their livejournal.  I figure it's only fair afterall...  So wander over and look and there's nothing of particular interest.  I look at their profile to see if there are any clues to how they found my journal, etc.  But we had no interests in common, no common communities, nothing in common at all...

Now I've just gone back to my profile, mainly because I wanted to find out a name of a group and go visit it and discovered that she's vanished again.  But not before friending one of my other accounts/communities.  I waited another while and wandered back to find that she had again unfriended the other account.  Now the only difference between friended and unfriended accounts that I can think of is locked entries...  So is it the case that she was bouncing around trying to see if there were interesting things hiding away behind friends locks?  I guess I won't know unless I ask her...  And to be honest, I'm only musing because I'm frightfully bored.

But definately something to watch out for.

Sorry you're bored...I kinda am too. At least you're a lot closer to going home than I am! :) My profession demands that I have a great care so I just lock pretty much everything. Even in my other journal.

But friending someone doesn't mean you can see their locked posts, just that they can see yours... Unless they're hoping the person will automatically friend back.

I've noticed a couple of random people friending me since I turned the notifications on, but they seem to be journals that are trying to friend as many people as possible and just have random things on them, not an actual person's lj. If that makes sense.

*points up* I agree with Lovely.

Although, apparently there are people who will just friend huge chunks of people, wait to be friended back and then de-friend the people who haven't friended back.

But I haven't seen anyone friend me via message notification since this thing started.

That's very odd. I rarely friend people that I don't know, but when I do, it's because I find them interesting and I stalk interesting people. Admittedly an unexpectedly large chunk of them end up friending me back, buuuuut that's not what it's for and anyone who just does it at random is straaaaaange.

There is definitely at least one well-known user, in the sense of being noticed across LJ, who seems to be using a script to friend and defriend people. Although they are friending and defriending at such a rate, that I can't really see a reason for it.

Does the user name fit a the pattern "[adjective]_and_[adjective]", where the adjectives are synonyms for "quiet"?
(he said mysteriously ;O))

That's really weird, but unless you friend the person back they can't see any entries you f-lock.

Oh, btw~ speaking of friending. This is K, just letting you know about my new journal.
