Now that I'm in a less than hostile/depressed mood about the whole thing, I reckon that I can post about it being too annoyed.

I failed my second driving test yesterday and well, one of the faults I accept complete responsibility for and the second, I reckon was slightly unfair. The first was pulling onto the bypass around Cavan. It's a main road, oncoming traffic is assumed to be doing ~100kph. I judged the distance from oncoming traffic to be acceptable but it obviously wasn't. If it had been a town road, the distance would have been perfect (~60kph) so I accept bad judgement on my part.

However, I pulled out and that was done, I was committed nothing I could do was to get my speed up as fast as possible. There was a truck behind me with it's lights on. Lights had been on before I came onto the road. I moved up through the gears well and was at about 80-85kph when the truck decided to tailgate me. The opposite carriageway was clear and the truck had started to move out to overtake and the tester instructed me to pull into the hard shoulder. I had been keeping an eye on the truck behind, the road in front and the speedometer. I found out that because he felt that the truck was desperate to pass and that I had no intention of pulling into the hard shoulder that he needed to tell me to move into the hard shoulder. I still don't understand why I had to pull in because we were on a straight part of the road, with no oncoming traffic leaving it clear for him to overtake if he felt like it. I'd stopped accellerating when I saw him move out to overtake so to be curteous... Oh well!

Apparently I missed a flash of lights while checking out the road ahead. I mean, I accept that I failed on the first fault, the second just annoys me.

Reapplied as soon as I got home and going to try to get a cancellation. I had no other marks on my sheet apart from those two (unfortunately red) marks.

*sighs and waits until half past*

What sucks most about that is that even if you had pulled into the hard shoulder to let him pass he would probably have failed you, for pullin in. *HUGS* Maybe try up in Dub for the next one?

Nah. I know the rest of the town perfectly. But I'm starting to think that I should have taken a blue for lack of progress instead, letting the truck out in front of me! They only take them out on the bypass during heavy traffic, and even then only one person an hour. So that's pretty much two people a day! *sigh* Unlucky but meh, off I go again. Got a letter to apply for a cancellation.

Ok, i don't understand the second Mark?

Pulling out in front of someone is quite dangerous and all that, but the rules of the road clearly state that it is not your responsibilty to move out of someones way so you can overtake.

Sounds like the Tester was being a real cunt!

See the first I don't mind as much. Yes, I had completely finished the manoeuvre before the arrival of the next vehicle but I hadn't built back up sufficient speed to not be an obstruction, so fair enough, I get that one and don't dispute it.

But the second could either be seen as a continuation of the first which meant that it shouldn't have been a second mark, but I think it depends on what he feels rather than what I feel. If someone gives you right of way by flashing lights and he doesn't see because he was checking something else and you pull out, does that mean that you're going to get docked for it?

Also, it didn't help that he didn't seem to be in a good mood. He'd been on the phone (mobile) for what seemed like 2 hours before my test. He was there when I was half an hour early waiting for my calm down lesson, he was there when we came back half way through the lesson to do a different route, he was there when we got back and did 15 minutes of chatting about the car controls, he was there the half an hour that I was waiting for my test (waiting because he was on the phone) and he was pacing the whole time. The phonecall ended with "For the last time, I'm not interested." He wasn't even trying to put me at ease.

Oh and by the way, it's against their regs to tell you where you failed or what marks went for what. Which would be extremely useful if you fail and you want to know on what!
