"Henry VIII was the worst serial killer ever" - Rev. Leo Sheridan (Ret. of Maghera Parish)
This was one of the things that was spouted out from the alter this morning at mass. To be honest, he never struct me as a serial killer just a very stupid monarch punishing women for something that was actually his own fault. He wanted an heir and his wives were either barren or gave him girls (the fault of his own genes), so he had them killed or divorced them. He didn't actually do the killing, so does that disqualify him from the ranks of serial killers? I'm not sure on that one.
Extract from Serial Killer Hitlist
"Serial killers tend to be white, heterosexual males in their twenties and thirties who are sexually dysfunctional and have low self-esteem. Their methodical rampages are almost always sexual in nature. Their killings are usually part of an elaborate fantasy that builds to a climax at the moment of their murderous outburst. Serial killers generally murder strangers with cooling off periods between each crime. Many enjoy cannibalism, necrophilia and keep trophy-like body parts as mementos of their work. Serial killers are sadistic in nature. Some return to crime scenes or grave sites of their victims to fantasize about their deeds. Many like to insert themselves in the investigation of their crimes and some enjoy taunting authorities with letters or carefully placed pieces of evidence."
Taking that definition or character stereotype then he really cannot be classed as a serial killer, just a misguided, desperate man who couldn't keep his dick in his codpiece (it was removable by the way - for easy access). To say that he was the worst is, quite frankly, wrong. I'm sure the families of the victims of real serial killers like Pedro Alonso Lopez (300+ victims - 1970's), Henry Lee Lucan and Ottis Toole (6-200+ victims - 1970's), H.H. Holmes (200+ victims - 1890's), Gilles de Rais (140+ victims - 15th century), Luis Gavarito (140 - 1990's), Dr. Kevorkian (130 - 1990's), not to mention the more famous Gacy, Harvey, Bundy, Manson, Dahmer, DeSalvo (Boston Strangler), Berkowitz (Son of Sam) and many more, don't agree that Henry VIII was the worst. The men names here have terrorised their hometowns and the country by taking pleasure in their acts of brutal murder. I just can't see how anyone, let alone someone who is supposed to be educated and well-read could draw a comparison between bastards like Dahmer who ate his victims or Ireland who used a book describing serial killers as his how-to manual and Henry VIII. He isn't in the same league and it's not very respectful to the unfortunate souls who lost their lives to these monsters.
Among other things that were said by the priest this morning
"Everyone is complaining about the treatment of Iraqi prisoners by the Americans but no one shouts out for the millions of baby's killed in their mothers wombs each year..." - Rev. Leo Sheridan (Ret. of Maghera Parish)
"Gay marriage, so-called marriage, an abomination against God, a delusion that this is what they are, what they want from life. Gays are deluding themselves that this is the path that God has laid out for them." - Rev. Leo Sheridan (Ret. of Maghera Parish)
Past words of wisdom
"No one who has not embraced the true faith of Roman Catholicism can be truly happy, they are just deluding themselves. If they want salvation, they must understand that it comes only through belief in Roman Catholicism, not Judaism or Presbytarianism but only by being baptised into the Roman Catholic Church!" - Rev. Leo Sheridan (Ret. of Maghera Parish)

Oh, and about the 'Man is created in God's image' thing... if that is true, please explain Michael Jackson, Sean Bean or Daniel Küblböck (you'd have to be German to know who that wanker is, please remain in the blissful ignorance Daddy has been denied :P)
Oh, and I was kidding about Sean Bean, he is pretty damn cool :P

Date: 2004-06-28 01:15 am (UTC)I dunno, I kinda like the idea that Sean Bean was created in God's image, at least I know that there may be something cute waiting for me when I get up there ... of course ... that's assuming that I end up going in that direction ;)
