A bus and a truck play chicken to try to get into the same lane. Unfortunately I have. This morning outside Heuston Station, a truck ran into the side of the bus that I was nicely settled down on. Truck did a fair amount of damage to the side of the bus and knocked the bumper clean off. Didn't help that the bumper then got jammed under the wheel of the bus and it couldn't go any farther. And then... of course... The truck took off again. It didn't stop to exchange details or anything. Bus driver gave us all a nice show of going out, looking at the damage and then doing his version of the rain dance by kicking the bus and inventing new curses on the spot.

Not a nice start to the morning. Got Luas to Jervis, walked to Stephen's Green and then got on Luas. Was only 5 minutes later than usual getting in so not too bad. Of course, you can imagine the size of the cup of tea I got to calm me down when I got in...

There is a reason that I sit at the back of the bus... To be as far away from the driver as possible.

I've seen a bus do an emergency stop at a bus stop and miss another bus by less than 6 inches.

I've been on a bus that didn't stop on time and plowed into the back of another bus and the window of the other bus get caught on the wipers of the bus I was on and go crashing into the street.

I've been in enough bus related crashes to happily never want to get on a bus again... But it ain't really an option at this time.

But driving test next tuesday ... so fingers crossed.

Ah, the Irish driving test - I remember them, lots of them - finally got my license the first time I did it in the UK. You are probably safer driving than taking buses with that history though.

Yeah, but while there is some chance of me surviving if a truck hits a bus, its significantly lesser if it's a truck hitting my car.

Ee, I hope nobody got hurt? Truck drivers are sometimes crooks. I once was with my car, standing half behind a car, just to get on the same lane as they were in and a truck came behind the car and instead of letting me in (I was already half on the lane!) he just continued driving and caused a nasty bump in my car and just pushed me off the lane and kept driving as if nothing had happened. I didn't get his license plate unfortunately, was too shook up by the audacity. I can tell you I have become very very careful about passing before a truck now, since there really is nothing you can do against them with a little car :(
*hugs*

Yeah, know the feeling ...

Noone was hurt just shaken up a little. It was a fairly substancial hit on the bus. Drove us up onto the pavement.

That's dreadful! I hate trucks in cities - I usually don't generalise, but truck drivers seem to be mostly idiots. I can't count the number of times I've seen them run the red lights at the bottom of O'Connell Street, of all places. Yes, clever people, pick on of the busiest intersections in central Dublin and drive straight across it!

Yeah, Almost been run over by so many trucks in my time but I expect to be safe on a bus (the only thing as heavy on the road (or nearly) as a truck)!
