Scion: Hero

Reading Scion: Hero at the moment, the new one from White Wolf. So far it's looking pretty good and I can't wait to have a go at it.

Basic concept is that the Titans of legend are free and engaged in a bit of a barney with the six major pantheons (Greco-Roman, Norse, Haitian, Egyptian, Aztec, Japanese). The members of said pantheons have been making little side trips to the World and getting involved with our women and men and having children (Scion's) who are destined to inherit some of their parent's powers and take over the fight against the Titanspawn who are taking over parts of the World.

All in all, it's what you expect from a White Wolf game. Quick character gen, usual rules with a few tweaks and a few new bits tacked on in place of others. It's as internally balanced as any of their systems but has really good flavour text. Scion's have Boons (inherited gifts) but can only access them through Birthrights (physical items provided to them - e.g. Thor's Scion has a rather large Peacemaker with a chip of Mjolnir as the firing pin).

All in all, it's quite a fun world to play in and appeals to my inner mythological geek, although I wouldn't limit it to just the six major pantheons. Course, that said, I'd probably play a Loan (Voodoo/Haitian) Scion or a Norse one but that's just where my interests lie. But that said, there's enough information in the book that you could happily choose any pantheon or God to align with. And of course, there is always the penalty for being a Scion - Fatebinding, the ability to lock other people into your destiny and have them follow you around for better or worse for the rest of their natural lives.

I'll be happily awaiting the next book (total of three in series - Demigod and God to come) in June and if it's only half as good I'll still be happy.
